Strengthening its status as a contender in the power generation market, the
Atlas Copco Gas and Process Division has received a large-scale order from the Middle East for approximately $10 million (71 million Swedish Kronors). The order, scheduled for delivery in Q3/2011, is for four centrifugal gas compressors to be used at a new natural-gas driven power plant in Saudi Arabia.

Atlas Copco Gas and Process received the order from Korea-based Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), an existing customer and a proven global leader in large-scale project construction.

The Atlas Copco turbocompressors will be employed in a Fuel Gas Boosting (FGB) application inside a new power plant to be constructed outside of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

HHI is building the new plant for Saudi Arabia’s largest public utilities operator, the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC). The plant will generate an output of 1,700 to 2,000 MW.

“Winning these orders is the direct result of Atlas Copco’s product competitiveness and experience in the field of Fuel Gas Boosting applications, both in this region and around the globe,” says Dré Schmitz, President of the Gas and Process Division.

The latest order adds to Atlas Copco’s growing portfolio of power generation references around the world, including two similar projects for Hyundai Heavy Industries in Saudi Arabia over the past two years.
