Centrifugal Gas Compressors
Our centrifugal gas compressors are built with proven, pre-engineered components to meet your configuration needs in standardized or customized packages. Through multi-staging (up to eight stages), our compressors can handle combined processes in one cycle and provide a vast flow range.

The aerodynamic section is the compressor’s driving force, where ambient air enters the inlet and is pushed to the perimeter by impeller blades, creating a centrifugal force that increases air velocity and pressure. In Atlas Copco Gas and Process compressors, the aerodynamic section is streamlined by an exclusive impeller design, engineered to provide superior flow/pressure ratios and turndown.
With our centrifugal gas compressors, we are constantly looking to increase productivity for our customers through innovation. For instance, we offer a centrifugal gas compressor combined with turboexpander stages for liquefied natural gas (LNG) and hot-gas applications. Fusing together two areas of our expertise in one compact machine, Atlas Copco Gas and Process demonstrates yet another innovation designed for superior productivity.
The flow range for our centrifugal gas compressors is typically 500-200,000 m3/h, with the ability to achieve pressures up to 80 bar through multi-staging.
Our centrifugal gas compressors serve applications in the markets air separation, hydrocarbon business (upstream, midstream and downstream applications), mechanical vapour compression and wastewater oxygen compression.
Atlas Copco Gas and Process has played a large part in the advancement of turboexpander machinery, which has now become a touchstone technology in the air separation market, hydrocarbon business, and cryogenic applications.
In 2007, we acquired the assets to leading turboexpander developer Mafi-Trench, a US-based company whose experience in the hydrocarbon market has truly enhanced our ability to serve the oil and gas industry, from upstream to downstream.
In particular, our turboexpanders are used worldwide in air separation plants, pressure letdown applications, and in the treatment of natural gas. Expander technology is also valuable in recovering waste heat and energy from process applications and natural resources.
From a technical standpoint, Atlas Copco Gas and Process turboexpanders provide a host of benefits. High-pressure units can handle pressures as high as 110 bar, and within this broad capacity range, our design can satisfy many custom specifications.
This is due in part to our experience manufacturing compressor impellers, allowing us to choose from a variety of different impellers to precisely match your process needs. And with Atlas Copco gas and Process, our quality assurance programs mandate that each impeller is dynamically balanced and overspeed tested before assembly.
Centrifugal Air Compressors
Fully-packaged standardized Centrifugal Air Compressors with integral-gear technology are typical of the future-oriented solutions that we develop.
Our standardized Centrifugal Air Compressors are adjustable over a broad range of flow/pressure capacities and sizes, thus covering a wide scope of applications. The largest standardized air compressors we build can cover a flow volume range of up to 390,000m3/h.
